‘Weekend Challenge’…..Real Life London

What draws me to certain blogs and not others? This is a question I ask myself often and for me the answer falls between aspiration and reality. Yes, I want to see posts that are refined and somewhat polished but I also want to glimpse the real person behind the cute outfits and impressive photos.

A similar question was posed on IFB recently – although I can’t find any trace of it to post a link  for you (typical!) but it would seem that we all look for different things in blogs and there really is no right answer and no one way.

As far as my own blog goes, I try to keep a balance between my posts looking fairly clean and semi-professional, as well as honestly showing aspects of my real life. It’s not glossy so why portray it as such. With that said, I am very self critical and always looking for ways to improve my content, presentation and presence. It’s an ongoing labour of love.

Keeping it real then. We decided to take these shots on our way to do the weekly supermarket shop. It’s a disused office building and granted it’s not exactly what you’d call a striking piece of architecture but nether the less is a good example of a typical British ‘industrial estate’ offering. Our country is littered with buildings just like this so it makes sense to feature it. It’s real, it’s relevant and I kinda like it, in a weird nostalgic way – whatever way you look at it, ugly ass buildings are a part of the British landscape for better or worse.

As for the dress, well this is part of my ongoing ‘weekend challenge’ – trying to wear items in my wardrobe that rarely get a look in. This particular item has not seen the light of day for over a year – in fact the last time I wore it was when I was an extra in a German tv series (don’t ask!). These brogues are total lifesavers. From day one they have been sheer comfort in footwear form and I will most probably weep when they come to end – which will be very soon at this rate because I wear them way too often. The leopard print socks are a gift from my Sister – she’s well aware of my penchant for unusual hosiery and always buys really cute socks for me. The blazer and bag you’ve seen before but remember, this is real life and this is what I really wore to the supermarket. No extra special supermarkets outfits here. All me. All real.

what i’m wearing….dress/fever  blazer/h&m  butterfly brooch/cath kidston  bag/nica  brogues/m&c0  socks/primark  ’bunty’ specs/specsavers

Which blogs do you like and why? Do you feel inspired by certain bloggers or do they sometimes give you an inferiority complex? Aspirational, real, what’s your preference? Questions, questions! I’m curious though so let’s talk.

Here’s my deal…I love all kinds of blogs as many of us do, however the ones that I get excited about when I see that they have been updated are the ones where I feel like I can connect with the blogger. For example, I’m always curious to see what’s new over at A Beautiful Mess, but I’m first going to go check blogs where I can comment and talk back and forth with the blogger just as friends would. Perhaps it’s because I’m a homeschooling mom who doesn’t get out much or maybe I’m just a stalkery type of person ;) But I’m very unlikely to leave a comment on a blog with 1000′s of followers, when I’ll always try to comment where I feel connected.

I love A Beautiful Mess too! It’s pretty difficult to compete with dedicated blogs like that – it’s a full time job for those girls. I’m the same as you, I’d never dream of leaving a comment on a super popular blog – mainly because I don’t want to be the hundredth person saying ‘cute dress’ or whatever. Maybe it’s wrong but I only ever comment if I have something meaningful or honest to say. Apparently you should try to leave around five comments a day on popular blogs to improve your views, which I think is nuts. It seems so fake to me, I could never act like that.

Yeah…I know that’s what your supposed to do, but I’d rather have 3 followers who are actually interested in my blog than 3000 who all take turns saying “cute dress” just to leave their own info on my blog :/ A while back I joined IFB (independent fashion bloggers) but left the next day because all the people on there just contact you one after the other saying “I’ll follow you if you follow me” just so that they’d have enough followers to be able to get freebies…I personally do not want to grow my blog in that way, it might go slower the way I do it, but at least I can feel good about it :) I do however go visit blogs of people who comment on other blogs I like and if I truly am interested I’ll leave them a comment and follow.
