Poncho Weather

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY

Something you may or may not know about Cornwall is that it’s littered with abandoned tin mines. Dotted all over the landscape they have become synonymous with the area almost as much as scones and clotted cream – and in my opinion are eerily wonderful. We often find ourselves exploring these old mines but our favourite spot to catch a Cornish sunset or just have a wander remains Botallack, which funnily enough is where these images were taken. Now that we’re properly settling into our new way of life being able to drive out to such amazing spots is only becoming more thrilling… we live here – say wha? Seriously, we feel like the luckiest people on earth right now and even though our flat is a fortnight away from being ready, we are starting to fully engage in Cornish life and absolutely reveling in it.

HELLO AUTUMN!

***

I’m not quite sure when it happened but all of a sudden the weather has taken a turn. I wouldn’t necessarily say for the worse because I adore autumn but there is a definite chill in the air that seems to have marked the end of summer… although I do hear we are in for a bit of an Indian summer, just to confuse matters further. Whilst it’s not quite cold enough for full on jackets and scarves, I’m combating the changing climate by adding light layers to my daily wears and this poncho is perfect for keeping warm without the hassle of a heavy coat. I also like it for it’s multi-purpose credentials (it can be worn as a cardi and scarf too) but I just love whipping it on over my head for a leisurely jaunt in the Cornish wilds. It’s already become a staple in my emerging autumn wardrobe and I’ll probably switch it into scarf mode come winter time. As ever, another stellar garment from one of my favourite British brands Seasalt – and now that I’ll be residing just a few feet away from their Falmouth store you’ll no doubt be seeing more items like this on the blog. I’m living in literally dangerous territory… for my purse anyway.

 SELF CONFIDENCE

***

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the perks of getting older and the one thing that I can categorically say is a bonus is the self confidence that comes with age, hindsight and all that other great stuff. In my twenties I was continually doubting myself – I’ve never thought I was talented, pretty, funny, thin, whatever enough, and I always had a tendency to err on the pessimistic (or as I liked to call it then, ‘realistic’) side. I’m not saying I’m a completely changed woman but nowadays my ‘couldn’t care less’ attitude is bringing with it a happier me. It’s something that I sometimes still have to work on but I’m getting there…

Of course, this led me on to thinking about my blog and blogging in general. There are so many times I think about how silly it must seem to those who don’t know much about the blogging world and it’s only when I meet people that have read it (it especially freaks me out to hear family members often do) that I suddenly become a wee bit self conscious about the posed photos and honest words I put out there for all to see – and criticise. Now more than ever though, I find myself loving having somewhere to be creative without it really hinging on anything – it’s a labour of love and that’s that. It’s given me a great opportunity to flex what small writing, photography muscles I have and I can categorically say if it weren’t for this site I would never have had the guts to pursue a career as a writer. Quite frankly, I owe this place a lot and for that I will always be grateful – let’s hope the next phase of peasoup leads me to even greater things… that’s the new positive me speaking, all I need now is for the universe to listen.
