Gone Fishin’

Okay, so technically I didn’t actually go fishing (that would be totes weird) but what I did do was venture down to a little spot not too far from were we are staying to catch yet another breathtaking sunset… hence the varying light in the photos. Of course, the fact I happened to be wearing my new shoe obsession, SunJellies, wasn’t entirely unintentional. This was my attempt to reflect their origins and give a little nod to the French fisherman who created them in 1946… which kinda ties in with my land girl meets fifties pin-up gettup. As ever, my outfits are a bit of a retro mash up – I just love mixing up dem eras!

In my opinion these little jelly wonders are the perfect vegan shoe. Comfortable, cool and chemical free, they are delightfully kitsch in all the right ways and are already on their way to replacing my go-to flats – and they didn’t even need breaking in! I could on and on about how super they are but because I know they’ll be featured again on the blog I’ll leave some of my unbounding enthusiasm for later. Until then, I’ll be busy pairing them up with skirts, dresses, shorts ‘n’ socks, and making the most of this crazy good but unexpected weather. Did someone say Indian summer?

Our lives are still a little bit on hold at the moment although we’ve been assured we will finally be getting the keys to our flat this week… it’s a ‘believe it when I see it’ kinda thing at this stage. Apparently getting your hands on a cream carpet is quite difficult in these parts – or at least, according to the carpet fitter who has ordered a very specific one for our bedroom. I can only guess it’s some very special flooring indeed – lucky us, eh? In case you can’t tell, this is my attempt at being sarcastic. Seriously unimpressed.

Until then, I’ve been mostly busying myself with writing (did I mention I have two pieces in the current issue of Hunger?) although we did take a two day break to attend the Encounters short film festival in Bristol. You may or may not remember me talking about our own short films in the past but yeah, we’re both big time film buffs and are planning a feature, which probably sounds ridiculously ambitious and if I’m being honest I would tend to agree. What can I say, we love a good challenge.
