What started out as a food blog in 2009 has since morphed into a lifestyle blog, documenting what I eat, wear and generally love. With musings from the mind of me (I have a tendency to ramble), vegan recipes and (mostly vintage) outfit posts, this is a little peek into my down to earth existence. I love vintage, have been thrifting for as long as I’ve had pocket money and have a passion for sustainable living. I’ve recently moved back to Cornwall after living in London via Chicago for the past 14 years – yikes, I’m old – where I’m settling in to a more laid back way of life that involves seaside strolls and farmers market fodder. In short, I love it. I’m still transitioning from my previous life as an actor (I probably should be over it by now) and am slowly making inroads into the magazine industry… most of my work can currently be seen on The Hunger where I write about everything from fashion through to film and art. Follow my journey here and feel free to ask me anything (well, almost).

    If you’re going to review restaurants you really should tell us where they are. Apart from that I quite enjoyed the read. Reminds me of Elizabeth Davey. I’d recommend her travel/cookery books if you haven’t already read them

    Yes, a slight oversight on my part but I thought maybe the link would cover it. It was the The Strand branch in London but I’ll edit my post to include that info now:) No, I haven’t read Elizabeth Davey but thanks for the tip. Hope you continue to read, I’m still learning so it should only get better.

      Yeah, I used to read Dani’s blog but as you said I don’t think she’s updated in a while and she’s taken the link off her facebook page. I kinda just write about what I cook – nothing is really planned other than my weekly menu, which determines what we eat in the evenings – but I’ve been doing that for years anyway. So glad you’re reading:) I’m really looking forward to Six Dead Queens, it’s going to be awesome!!

  6. Thanks for the nice comment on my blog! As for your question, I often use applesauce instead of oil in my baked goods to lighten up the calorie and fat content while still providing moisture to the baked good. Iโ€™d recommend it in muffins, cakes and quick breads โ€“ like this one โ€“ over things like brownies and cookies. I find the latter need the extra fat to get the texture the way I like it.

    I stumbled across your blog when I was noseying why you were posting food recipes on fb lol!! This is brilliant and appeals to all audiences vegan or not!! I really like your take on brussel sprouts because I have never been a fan and in our house they are a Christmas staple!! Hope you are keeping well and have a lovely Christmas. I can see that you have a natural talent for cooking and sharing it so I will be keeping an eye on here for some more tips – and I love the pics – arty but you can also see the food which is good to see if I be making things right lol xox

      Yes, a bad habit of mine (posting recipes on FB) but I just can’t help it:) Thankyou for leaving such a lovely comment. You’ll never guess what I got for Christmas? A super duper DSLR Canon camera – eek! Unfortunately for my poor hubbie it didn’t arrive in time (stupid Citylink!). When it does arrive though my photos should be even better! I totally agree with you – I hate photos that don’t properly display the food. I added some chopped chestnuts and flat leaf parsley to the brussels (a last minute decision) and they were soooo amazing. This is now my patented Christmas Brussel Sprout recipe;) Please keep reading, many more great recipes to come xxx

I mean c’mon, what a great recipe. And the vegan sugar cookies are so going on my to-do list. My aunt is a vegetarian and these recipes are a great source of inpiration for us in the kitchen. It’s funny because when I was living in the States, I had to eat a lot of vegan meals. But upon moving to South America, where everything is naturally and organically fresh, I haven’t had to be so strict.     Hi, I just discovered your website and notice that your first recipe seemed to include beef and now you are vegan. When and why did you become vegan, were you vegetarian along the way? I’m almost vegan and love it.

      Yes, the first recipe on the blog does indeed include beef – obviously pre-veganism days:) I have been vegan almost two years now and the reasons are essentially down to ethics, environment and health. I got educated and amended my lifestyle, it really was as simple as that. I have never been vegetarian, I went straight to veganism after learning about the cruelties of factory farming etc and have never looked back.

    Yours is the first vegan cookbook I have ever bought, and my gosh – I am so inspired! It is gorgeous and recipes are gorgeous and just – ahhh ๐Ÿ˜€
    I have been a vegetarian for two years, vegan is the goal but my family worry too much about my health as none of them are veggie. It doesn’t help that I’m on the very slim side, I guess. But no matter how much I explain my motives, they think I’m a loonatic! Sadly, it has led to many unnecessary arguments.
    Luckily, living out at university gives me the free choice and your easy recipes have helped me so much ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m worried about coming home for the holidays again though – it will be an inevitable return to non-vegan and worse: fish! They’ve accepted my non-meat, but fish will still be force fed. It saddens me. Have you ever experienced this kind of problem?

    Aine I just love your Keep it Vegan book, I don’t normally write on these things but I just had to say well done on writing a practical down to earth vegan cookbook a difficult task I’m sure and all the recipes so far have turned out fantastic my fave the shepherdess pie the flavours work so well together!     Bought your Keep it Vegan Cookbook while browsing my local book store. Mulled over turning vegan for a while now. I have been a vegetarian for over twenty years, since I was 11 years old. Looking for exciting food choices to help the move. I’ve so far made, the Buddha Bowls, Homemade Hummus, Tortilla Pizzas, Watermelon and Bulgar Wheat Salad, Breakfast Brownie with a Strawberry Bottom, Toasted Breakfast Burrito, Vegetable Rosti with Smoky Roasted Salsa, Split Pea Dahl, Banana, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Sundae, Courgette and Carrot Bread and the Strawberry Margarita! Phew, I’ve only had the book a couple of weeks but I’m hooked. Even shared some recipes with my mum and a friend who runs a Healthy Eating Programme. They love the food too. X

    However am a little confused about the measures. I am used to g.
    Are your cups American or English?

      Hey Isobel, so pleased to hear you’re enjoying the book. With regards to measurements, are you referring to those in the book or on the site? If you have a US publication everything has been converted to American measurements(i.e. cups) but the British version uses grams – there is no British cup equivalent. Some of the recipes on this website do vary between cups and grams because I lived in the States for a time, however, all recent recipes stick to British measurements… if you see ‘cups’ used it will always be American.
